Floor / Table Lamp Design
Design one lighting piece inspired by Emirati heritage and traditional crafts. This may include a floor lamp, table lamp, or another functional decorative lighting object.
Design Inspiration
All submitted designs should draw inspiration from Emirati handicrafts and cultural references.

- Cultural References
- Tents, falconry, pearl diving
Students should interpret and abstract the selected inspiration into a contemporary design solution. Direct copying or literal replication of traditional objects, patterns, symbols, or motifs should be avoided.
Required Outputs
- One (1) lighting design only
- Choose one lighting type: floor lamp, table lamp, or one functional decorative lighting object
Students should not submit multiple lighting options within the same category.
Material Guidelines
- Primary
- Wood
- Secondary
- Textiles, natural fibers, glass, acrylic, rope or woven elements, lightweight board materials
- Avoid
- Heavy reliance on metal, overly complex mechanical systems, fragile materials unsuitable for prototyping
Submission Requirements
Per piece
- 3D digital model
- Drawings: top, front, and side views
- Full dimensions on all views
- Material mood board
- Full description of the design inspiration
- Clear indication of materials and finishes
- Explanation of how Emirati heritage was interpreted
Poster Submission
One (1) poster at 80 × 80 cm

Competition Notes
Includes: Floor lamps, table lamps, or one functional decorative lighting object.
Important Notes
- Original work is required
- Design must be functional as a lighting object
- Consider light direction, shade, shadow, and atmosphere
- Design should be suitable for 1:20 or 1:10 scale models
- Selected designs may proceed to 1:1 prototypes and exhibition
- Poster must not include student name, ID, section, faculty, or university email
- Direct copying of traditional objects, symbols, patterns, or motifs is not accepted
